“The friendly and helping staff is a very good thing on this hostel. Also, there are many nice people traveling and staying at this hostel and you will definetely meet with some of them in the hostel and sit, drink and talk with them”

“Extremely helpful staff, very friendly with local info and travel tips, they also spoke english very well. This place was a much more pleasant stay than a couple of 3 star hotels we stayed at on the same trip, so it was great value for money.”

Simon Collins

“The owner spoke really good English and had his own maps. He is quite knowledgeable on which sights we should see first depending on how much time we have. The place is really near a lot of places as well as transport.”

Carolyn Sze

“This is a unique place! Mr. Kwon and his family are VERY friendly and helpful. They truly make you feel like welcome guests in their home. The place is in a great location and is as cheap a bed as you can find in Gyeongju. Also the rooftop and garden were very nice!”

“The owners were absolutely amazing and went above and beyond what we usually expect. A great credit to them. Super friendly and super helpful. A lot of extras are possible, such as a very nice western style breakfast, calligraphy and a few other things advertised on the notice board.”

“Wonderful hosts – they couldn’t have been more helpful. Great courtyard breakfast with food fresh out of the garden.”

“Amazing couple run this place who speak French, English, Korean and a bit of Japanese. We were invited in for tea and a chat and ended up chatting to the couple for 2-3 hours and the taught us some Korean which was great! They are very good at advising on what to do and where to go. We went to a fantastic restaurant on their recommendation. Free wifi, towels and luggage storage.”

“The owner, Mr Kwon is very friendly and helpful. He gives great advice on what there is to do in GyeongJu and how to travel to sites outside of the city. The single room with ensuite was very large and spacious.”

David Wu

“This was my second time staying at the Hanjin Hostel, having first lodged there back in 2010. The hostel is simple and no frills, but doesn’t pretend to be more than it is. The rooms are basic and perhaps a little dated, but this just adds to the character of the place. It is perhaps the friendliness of the owner and his wife where the Hanjin excels. Always willing to help and give advice, I was more than grateful for the information they gave me.”

““We will be back soon!!”

I stayed here for 3 nights and 4 days and must say I truly enjoyed myself. The staff at Hanjin are great and definitely made my husband and I feel welcome from the beginning. The owner, Mr. Kwon speaks fluent english and will help you with anything and everything! Don’t be afraid to ask! He is the kindest and most knowledgeable man you will find in Gyeongju! Without him, we wouldn’t have known where to start! Thank you Mr. Kwon!!

The place seemed a bit old but it is extremely affordable! Our room and bathroom were clean and they graciously supplied us with anything extra that we needed. We hung out with the staff and other guests on the rooftop at night which was fun. This place is very homey, personal, and I truly felt relaxed here. We could not have asked for better hospitality from Mr. Kwon and his father. They are really awesome people! Hanjin is my husband’s new favorite place and he is already planning another trip to Gyeongju with our children. Hanjin Hostel and Mr. Kwon are absolutely great and we will definitely be back!!”

“We arrived on a busy weekend and the Hanjin was about the only budget place left with rooms – the staff at the tourist info desk weren’t too complimentary about it so we were expecting the worst! We were pleasantly surprised – it was clean with ensuite bathroom, plenty hot water and even towels provided (although please note there are Korean towels and therefore tiny). As others have noted the owner was very friendly and helpful, and the hostel is in a good location. If you’re looking for a cheap bed for a night and a friendly place then this does the trick.”

“The friendliest service ever!

I was nervous coming to this hostel after reading the reviews but I think some reviews have been vastly exaggerated. Yes, the place is dated, but the beds and sheets were clean, bathroom was clean, and the shower was hot. All the basics are there.

We thought the price was value for money as most love motels will set you back more.

We had a lovely cooked breakfast in the garden for 6,000 were we discussed our plans with the owners and got advice for the day ahead.

And that is by far the best feature of this hostel, was the owner and his family. They were just so friendly and went beyond what you would get anywhere else. Their english is also great so no difficulty there. They’ve been in the business for long time so they know what they’re about.

Location is a minutes walk from the bus terminal so very central. We actually didn’t have directions to the hostel so the owner came out to meet us! Just one of the nice things they did for us.

Also there’s a sweet rooftop to chill out on and a a little view of the area.
Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the common area which can get noisy if guests are inconsiderate.”
